On April 28, 2020, Interface News learned from the Langzhong municipality in Sichuan that Li Xianfeng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Langzhong Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, was recently taken away by the relevant authorities of Nanchong City for investigation.
Recently, news about Li Xianfeng’s “accident” has been circulating in Langzhong. According to people close to Li Xianfeng, Li Xianfeng was taken away for investigation on April 25. A person from the Organization Department of the Langzhong Municipal Party Committee told Interface News that Li Xianfeng was taken away by the Nanchong Municipal Disciplinary Committee and is currently in a state of detention.
A person from the organization department also revealed that because Li Xianfeng was a city management cadre, he did not notify the relevant parties in Langzhong City when he was taken away.
In response to this, a person from the Propaganda Office of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Nanchong City said in response to an inquiry about the news on the interface that the case-handling personnel are still under investigation and will release information in due course after evidence is fixed. This person also said that there are many procedures for investigating leading cadres, and it is usually more cautious to release information to the outside world, but “it will definitely be handled in accordance with the law and impartiality.”
Li Xianfeng was also accused of being involved in a sexual assault case against a minor. The person close to Li Xianfeng said that the sexual assault case occurred during the Spring Festival in 2020, in Guangyuan, Sichuan province, next to Langzhong.
It is not clear at the moment that Li Xianfeng was taken away by the Disciplinary Committee and the link between the investigation and the sexual assault case. Interface News noted that Nanchong City Public Security Bureau told the media on the afternoon of April 28 that the police are currently verifying the relevant cases.
Public information shows that Li Xianfeng was born in April 1974 in Yingshan, Sichuan, who participated in work in December 1995, joined the Communist Party of China in June 2000, a college degree. Li Xianfeng served as the deputy head of the Shunqing District Government of Nanchong City and the party secretary of Dalin Township.
