Thug who Stabbed the Hong Kong Police Was Arrested at Airport in Early Morning, Relatives Report

According to Hong Kong media reports, a thug suspected of stabbing a police officer on the afternoon of July 1 was arrested by the Hong Kong police at the airport in the early morning of the 2nd. The thug originally planned to fly to Britain by plane.

The Hong Kong police said that after an in-depth investigation, officers of the Commercial Crime Investigation Branch arrested a local man with the surname Huang (24) in the airport in the early hours of July 2. He was detained by the police for investigation on suspicion of “injury”.

It is reported that the arrested man named Huang was reported by relatives and friends, saying that he would arrive at the airport at midnight on July 1, preparing to take the opportunity to escape to the UK. After the police received the report, he rushed to the airport and arrested him.

On July 1, netizens and groups launched a parade on Hong Kong Island. A large number of citizens gathered in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai. Demonstrators rushed out of the road and occupied multiple lanes. At about 4 pm, the police conducted an arrest operation on Causeway Road near Hing Fat Street in Causeway Bay. During an attempt to subdue a suspect, a police officer encountered a strong struggle and resistance.

At that time, a number of thugs around the police officer kept pushing him with sharp objects and umbrellas, throwing hard objects such as bricks at him, and punching him. Some thugs even openly “robbed” and reached out to the suspect, and the suspect and the mob finally escaped.

The policeman was injured and bleeds on his left shoulder. The injured police officer was then taken to Ruttonjee Hospital and then transferred to Eastern Hospital for treatment.

According to information released by the Hong Kong Police, as of 10 pm on the 1st, the police arrested a total of about 370 people, of which 6 men and 4 women were suspected of violating the “National Security Act of Minato City”, and the remaining arrested persons were suspected of “illegal assembly”, “Misconduct in public places”, “Crazy Driving” and “Possession of Offensive Weapons” etc.
